Free Web/audio Conferencing and Screen Sharing: Yugma

http://www.yugma.com

yugmaAwhile back, I talked about a nifty up-and-coming web conferencing utility for Microsoft SharedView, a decent alternative for GotoMeeting or WebEx.

Yet another great alternative, Yugma is an online web conferencing tool similar to GotoMeeting or WebEx in that it offers an easy way to create and share your desktop to other remote users across the Internet.

Granted, there are freeware AND paid variations, with certain limitations imposed on the free version (you get the 'pro' features for 15 days after signing up).

Performance seems more than adequate, and you do get free teleconferencing capability (long distance charges apply) even with the free version.

Features for the free version include 10 participant max, the aforementioned free teleconferencing, Skype compatibility, Desktop Sharing, etc. - unfortunately, changing presenter or scheduling sessions online is not part of the included free features.

Using the Yugma interface is not unlike GotoMeeting, with controls in all the right spots (screen sharing, record/playback session, annotation tools, change presenter, etc.). Everything is laid out just where you would expect it.

The only issues that I have with Yugma is that you need to create a Yugma account to join a session, and when you share your desktop, it seems that you share your Yugma interface - well, at least it did in one of my tests - so this could be a glitch.

(update: it seems that this is a glitch with Vista systems only, and Yugma is working to resolve it - thanks to Rebecca from Yugma on that!)

I am the developer of a software called ScreenCamera that allows users to stream the desktop inside video chatting programs and websites such as Skype, Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AOL Messenger, blogTV, Justin.tv, Mogulus, and so on.

ScreenCamera has a free version that streams the desktop without any cost or any limitation. The paid version supports webcams allowing to users to stream desktop and webcam together and also use the webcam on multiple programs at the same time.

It is a free desktop sharing program that has the only downside of having to shrink the desktop to 320x240 pixels that is the resolution most video chatting programs and websites use. It makes up for it allowing the user to follow the cursor or select regions of the desktop and by not interfering with the live video chatting.
You can download the free version here:

Rebecca here from Yugma, thanks for the shout out! To clarify the "glitch" you came across--the Yugma panel shows up when the presenter is using Vista, it should not appear in other OS's.

@Rebecca:

Ahhh, that would be it. That is why it showed up on my laptop, but not on our XP systems here at work when we used it yesterday and today.

Thanks for the clarification!
