Desktop getting out of order with various shortcuts and other icons? Wish you could organize them? Aaahh, if only there was something out there to help you with your woes...

FSL Launcher to the rescue

FSL Launcher is an elegantly written SysTray applet that allows you to organize your shortcuts in a tabbed interface.

The launcher actually creates all of the shortcuts in a folder structure under your user profile in the FSL Launcher folder - then it accesses these shortcuts and displays them in the tabs. This is a very simple but elegant feature. Since FSL Launcher's configuration is stored in your profile, anyone else who logs into the computer will not see your icon set.

Adding shortcuts to the tab groups are just a drag 'n drop affair. Word of warning though: you can only store shortcuts in the tabs, so if you have a shortcut in the launcher pointing to a document or spreadsheet, be sure you do not delete the source file - just like regular Windows shortcuts, the linked icon will not work if you do this!

Two versions available

There are two versions of FSL Launcher available: A Standard version and a 'Privileged User' version. The latter has a few additional features (such as hotkey support, password protection, icons for your groups, other misc. features) is available only to those that donate to FSL. The standard version is a very capable offering - but heck, FSL deserves a donation in any regard.

3, 2, 1...Launch!

You can activate the Launcher by moving your mouse to the upper left-hand corner of the screen (customizable in the Privileged version), or by clicking the SysTray icon once. Once you click on an application outside of the FSL Launcher window, it will automatically hide itself.

You can backup or restore icon/tab groups into a zipped archive file, making it easy to restore your configuration if you need to later on.

The launcher features a number of built-in skins (although I gotta say, some of them are pretty ugly), and you can customize what the Systray icon looks like.

Certainly a handy tool for those of us who want to clean up some clutter on our desktop!
